This Website's Slogan

Stretching across the facade of a Düsseldorf Altbier brewpub is the slogan which appears top and bottom of each page on this site. It's an old German proverb which simply means, "Eat that which is thoroughly cooked, drink that which is clear, say that which is true." It sounds nice and rhymey in German, but a little bland in English. Sorry.

The prominence of the slogan on the brewery's storefront is more than a little ironic, as the first part of it is violated every day within -- raw minced beef and pork are on the menu. (You've heard jokes about pork tartare? This is no joke. It's quite popular in Germany, particularly in the lower Rheinland.) These delicacies are served on halved rolls, which you are encouraged to sprinkle liberally with salt and pepper.

"Which of the Düsseldorf Altbier brewpubs," I hear a voice ask, "is adorned with said slogan?" Well, I'd like to tell you, but their website is so anti- "anybrowser" (you practically have to pull teeth to get anything at all, unless you've drunk deeply of the Micro$oft kool-ade) that I'm leaving that out, in protest. :*P

However, as there are only four (which are known to me), and no trip to Düsseldorf is complete without a visit to each, you can easily find out. When you do, please make some snotty remark (preferably in perfect Düsseldorferplatt) about the utter intractability of their website.
